People sometimes think the Japanese community in Argentina is closed off or isolated. But one example that challenges this perception is the history of the 17 Japanese Argentines, or Nikkei, who were forcibly disappeared during Argentina’s last military dictatorship (1976–1983) They were students, workers, professionals, and teachers who actively participated in Argentine society The photos show Japanese calligraphy by Ryuho Hamano featuring their names, created as a tribute to the victims and their families
