the new republic's recent piece on eliminating the electoral college doesn't mention this, but the simple math of the proposed amendment is staggering. this would shift ~60 of the ~500 seats (12%) from red states to blue states. but because "winner take all" states get an extra 2 seats for their senate, that number jumps to 120 seats. so in the next election, 120 seats, or 24% of the total, would switch from red to blue. no matter how the votes actually go, that's a 24 seat loss for republicans. difficult to believe that can't be undone using the same system. https://newrepublic.com/post/217594/democrats-seats-nationwide-end-electoral-college #americanpolitics #electionmath #democraticshift
